Ludex alternative for eBay sellers: CardZen compared
Looking for a Ludex alternative? Compare eBay listing allowances, scan limits, purchase costs, and profit tracking, plus when you should stay with Ludex.
Ludex's published plans include 5, 50, or 250 monthly eBay listings, and its support team invites sellers who need more than 250 to get in touch. CardZen has no separate monthly listing quota. Its paid plans meter CardSense scans, with 1,000 for $17 a month or 2,500 for $30. Compare your actual listing volume and the cost and profit records you need before switching.
A Ludex alternative is worth testing if your monthly eBay listings exceed your plan's allowance or you need sales records tied to what you paid for each card. CardZen combines card capture, inventory, direct eBay listing, and profit tracking.
Ludex already supports eBay listing, and its web tool lets eligible members record purchase prices. Switching just to get either feature may solve a problem you do not have.
We make CardZen. This comparison uses Ludex's public pages and CardZen's current app and plan definitions, checked on October 27, 2026. It is not a head-to-head test of scanner speed or accuracy.
Quick answer
| Your main need | What to consider |
|---|---|
| Identify cards, check estimated values, and list within your Ludex allowance | Stay on Ludex if it already meets your needs. |
| Publish more than 250 cards a month | Ask Ludex support about higher volume, and compare that offer with CardZen's scan-based plans. |
| Connect card purchase costs to synced eBay sales and fees | Test CardZen's inventory and profit tracking with a small set of cards. |
| Manage purchase details or export your Ludex collection on a computer | Check Ludex's Standard or Pro web access before switching. |
Ludex's current plans and listing allowances
Ludex's membership page lists these monthly prices and allowances. Its eBay publishing offer is US-only.
| Ludex plan | Monthly price | Published monthly eBay allowance | Scans and saved cards |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 5 advertised, see eligibility note below | 60 saved cards. Official pages disagree on the scan allowance. |
| Lite | $4.99 | 50 in your selected card category | Unlimited scans and saved cards in one sport or trading card game category, plus 200 identified scans in other categories. |
| Standard | $9.99 | 50 across card categories | Unlimited scans and saved cards across categories. |
| Pro | $24.99 | 250 across card categories | Unlimited scans and saved cards across categories. |
These are the published allowances, not proof that 250 is an absolute ceiling. Ludex's selling FAQ asks sellers who need more to contact its support team. It does not publish the terms of a higher-volume offer.
There are two conflicts in Ludex's public copy. The membership page advertises unlimited free scans and five free monthly listings. The List It page still says 200 free monthly scans, while the listing instructions require an active Lite, Standard, or Pro membership. Confirm the free allowances in the app or with support before choosing a plan.
For a volume example, publishing 20 cards on each of 20 selling days means 400 listings that month. That exceeds the published Pro allowance by 150. If that matches your workload, compare Ludex's support offer with alternatives before paying for a switch.
What Ludex already does well
Ludex has iOS and Android apps for scanning sports cards and trading card games. Its FAQ describes card identification, estimated values from multiple marketplaces, and a Price Report with recent eBay sales. Its List It workflow lets you review card details, choose pricing and shipping, and publish to eBay.
Ludex also has Collection Web Management for Standard and Pro members. The web tool lets you edit purchase price, purchase date, and private notes. Its web and mobile comparison documents CSV export, Walmart selling, and a Seller Hub for listings, batches, and templates. The tool is in beta, so check the functions you need in your account.
Those are reasons to stay if you already like Ludex and its allowance fits your selling volume. Purchase-price entry and desktop collection management alone are not reasons to replace it.
Where CardZen fits
Monthly scans and monthly listings are different limits
CardZen's paid plans have no separate monthly eBay listing quota. Starter costs $17 a month for 1,000 CardSense scans. Pro costs $30 a month for 2,500 scans. Both include inventory, eBay listing and sync, and profit tracking. Pro also offers scan top-up packs, so scan volume is not the only plan distinction.
CardSense uses AI to read card images and fill card details. You review those details before listing. Scan allowances still apply. If a card's scan has not been charged yet, CardZen charges it when you publish, so you need scans available.
eBay's own selling limits still apply whichever app you use. A CardZen subscription does not raise your eBay allowance or remove eBay's seller fees.
Profit needs recorded costs and synced fees
An estimated card value does not tell you what a completed sale earned. You need the sale proceeds, fees, postage, and the card's cost basis, meaning the recorded cost of acquiring it.
CardZen links cards to purchases and uses those costs in sales profit calculations. Its eBay integration syncs sales and fee data. The calculation subtracts recorded fees, shipping-label cost, and card cost from the sale price plus buyer-paid shipping.
That depends on complete records. CardZen leaves profit unknown when cost or fee data is missing, and a shipping label that has not settled can leave the displayed amount provisional. Record postage bought outside eBay and other costs yourself. Do not treat a new sale's first synced amount as a final payout reconciliation.
For an example using invented amounts, a $50 sale with $7 in selling fees, $5 in postage, and a $20 card cost leaves $18. The $7 is an example, not an eBay fee quote. Use the eBay sports card profit calculator to test your own assumptions.
CardZen and Ludex compared
| Capability | Ludex | CardZen |
|---|---|---|
| Capture and identification | iOS and Android scanning, plus web photo upload for eligible members. | CardSense reads uploaded or captured card images. Usage depends on the scan allowance. |
| eBay listing | In-app and web publishing. Published allowances depend on the plan. | Direct listing and sales sync, with no separate monthly CardZen listing quota. |
| Purchase records | Purchase price and date in Collection Web Management for Standard and Pro. | Cards link to purchase records for cost basis. |
| Profit after a sale | The cited pages document purchase prices and recorded sold prices. They do not establish an automatic after-fee profit calculation. | Profit uses recorded card costs and synced sales and fee data. Missing data can leave profit unknown. |
| CSV export and cost-file import | Standard and Pro can export collection details. Images are excluded. | Inventory CSV export. Cost-file import matches rows to your cards and records costs. Unmatched rows become placeholders awaiting photos before appearing in Cards or becoming listable. |
| Paid monthly plans | $4.99 Lite, $9.99 Standard, $24.99 Pro. | $17 Starter or $30 Pro. CardSense scan allowances apply. |
Ludex details above come from its membership, selling, web comparison, and collection export pages. The absence of a feature from those pages does not prove Ludex cannot do it. Ask its support team if after-fee profit is the only reason you are considering a move.
Who should stay on Ludex
Stay if your current allowance covers your listings and you value Ludex's card identification and price checks. Its lower-priced paid tiers may cost less for that workload. If you want desktop purchase-price records, Standard or Pro may already cover what you need.
Stay if you need Ludex's Walmart listing integration or its web Seller Hub with batches and templates. CardZen's direct marketplace listing integration is eBay only.
Before switching for volume alone, ask what Ludex offers above 250 monthly listings. Compare the actual price and terms with how many CardSense scans your new cards would use in CardZen.
How to try CardZen without duplicating listings
- Export a backup first. Ludex's documented CSV export requires Standard or Pro and does not include images. Keep your purchase receipts and card photos separately.
- Test a small file with CardZen's cost-file import. Map your actual purchase costs and match rows to cards you already have. A market-value field is not what you paid. Unmatched rows become placeholders waiting for photos. Add your own photos in CardZen before those cards appear in your Cards list or can be listed. This does not transfer a complete, ready-to-list Ludex collection.
- Pick one tool to create each eBay listing. Check active listings before publishing a card, and keep the eBay item number with your records.
- After sales sync, compare the recorded sale price, fees, postage, and purchase cost with your receipts and eBay records. Resolve missing costs before judging profit.
For a wider comparison, read our guide to sports card inventory apps. If you prefer a spreadsheet upload, our Seller Hub CSV workflow explains that route.
Start free with CardZen. The one-time trial includes 15 CardSense scans or 14 days, whichever comes first, with eBay listing and profit tracking included and no credit card required. Use it to check a small set of cards before committing to a paid plan.
