TL;DR

Keep CollX if its collector marketplace is where you find buyers. Try CardZen if you sell sports cards on eBay and want capture, inventory, purchase costs, listings, and sale profit in one app. CardZen starts at $17/month after a one-time trial of 15 CardSense scans or 14 days, whichever comes first. eBay fees still apply.

A CollX alternative is worth testing if you sell on eBay and still copy card details and purchase costs between apps. You also need each card's listing status, sale price, and selling fees to know what you earned.

CollX may already be the right choice if you use its marketplace to find buyers. CardZen is worth trying if you want to capture cards, review them in batches, and manage eBay listings and sales alongside your costs.

Card Dealer Pro's site supports scanner, phone, and certification-number intake. You do not need to buy an autofeed scanner to use it. It is a separate CollX product. Ludex's eBay FAQ lists 50 monthly listings for Lite, limited to your selected card type. Standard allows 50 across all card types, and Pro allows 250. Those are Ludex allowances. Your eBay account has its own selling limits.

What CollX does well

CollX combines card identification, collection value tracking, and access to buyers. Its iOS and Android apps let you photograph cards and add them to a collection. Its identification FAQ explains that the scanner matches against a card database and lets you choose between possible variants. Review the match, especially for parallels.

The marketplace supports asking prices and negotiated Deals for one or more cards. CollX also offers shipping labels and buyer protection under its published policies. These can matter more than eBay integration when you already have buyers there. See the marketplace FAQ for the rules.

CollX Pro adds CSV collection exports and unlimited collection size. Gold includes Pro's tools and adds Seller Hub, including bulk label printing and sales-history exports. It would be misleading to describe CollX as only a scanner.

The CollX column follows its homepage, Pro page, Gold page, and marketplace rules.

In CardZen, you capture photos, review the card details in a batch, and keep cards in inventory or list them on eBay. Linking a card to a purchase records what you paid. Sales sync brings eBay sale information back into CardZen.

Profit depends on complete records. CardZen uses recorded cost basis, meaning the costs assigned to the card, and synced selling fees. Missing costs or fees can leave profit unknown, and postage can remain pending until its charge arrives. Check your records before treating a profit figure as final. Grading-submission tracking is not a shipped CardZen feature.

Sources are CollX Pro, CollX Gold, Card Dealer Pro, and CardZen pricing. Both CardZen paid plans include capture, inventory, eBay listing, and profit tracking. Pro includes more monthly scans and access to top-up packs. Scan+ credits, AI credits, and CardSense scans are different vendors' units, so the counts alone do not prove equivalent recognition or value.

Marketplace fees and eBay profit are separate questions

CollX's marketplace FAQ publishes a default 10% seller commission on the item price, excluding shipping and taxes, with payment processing included. It also notes reduced rates on qualifying orders for Pro and Gold. Gold's page specifies 8% on the first $2,500 and 3% on the portion above that. Withdrawals require at least $10 and cost $2 unless you have Gold.

For an illustrative $100 item sale at the default rate, the CollX commission is $10. That leaves $90 before your card cost, postage, supplies, any withdrawal fee, and other costs. It is not $90 of profit. See the CollX fee rules and Gold rate details.

CardZen does not charge a percentage of your eBay sale, but eBay still charges its fees. Compare the actual sales channel, shipping costs, subscription, and what you paid for the card. Use the eBay sports card profit calculator guide to work through your own sale assumptions before changing tools. Moving to eBay does not guarantee lower selling costs.

Who should stay on CollX?

Stay if you find buyers there and use Deals, collection values, or the community. Pro or Gold may be worth the subscription if their collection tools, marketplace credits, or selling benefits match your activity. A different app cannot promise to replace those buyers.

CardZen's documented mobile capture app is for iPhone. Its web app also accepts photo uploads. Keep CollX if you need its native Android app.

Card Dealer Pro is also a reasonable next step if you want to sell on several marketplaces. Compare its phone intake with your current process before assuming you need different equipment.

Who should try CardZen?

Try CardZen if eBay is your main sales channel and you currently re-enter card details or reconcile sales with a separate cost spreadsheet. Test the complete process on a small batch. Review identification, attach purchase costs, prepare listings, and inspect a synced sale before moving the rest of your inventory.

CardZen does not provide a CollX-style collector marketplace. It also does not automatically keep your CollX inventory in sync. If your priority is collection valuation or finding buyers inside CollX, those are reasons to keep using CollX.

For a wider comparison, see the sports card inventory apps guide. If your main concern is keeping records, compare a spreadsheet with an inventory app.

How to test a switch without duplicating listings

  1. Save a copy of your current records. CollX Pro advertises a CSV collection export. Keep that file even if you decide to stay.
  2. Start with new intake or a few unlisted cards in CardZen. A CollX CSV is not a verified one-click migration into CardZen. Check the available import fields before relying on it.
  3. Use one tool to create each eBay listing. If you also sell the same card on CollX, remove the other listing as soon as it sells. Do not assume the two apps share stock updates.
  4. Compare a synced eBay sale with the sale and fee records in eBay Seller Hub. Confirm the purchase cost and postage before relying on the profit number.

Start the CardZen free trial to test 15 CardSense scans or 14 days, whichever comes first. Check the current plans before choosing a subscription.

Frequently asked questions

Is CardZen a free CollX alternative?
CardZen has a one-time free trial of 15 CardSense scans or 14 days, whichever comes first, with no credit card required. It is not a permanent free plan. Starter costs $17/month for 1,000 scans, and Pro costs $30/month for 2,500.
Does CollX list directly to eBay?
CollX's public selling guidance describes its own marketplace. Its homepage directs professional sellers to its separate Card Dealer Pro product for multi-channel selling. Card Dealer Pro's own site lists eBay as a supported marketplace and supports phone uploads as well as scanners.
Can I use CardZen and CollX together?
You can keep CollX for its marketplace and use CardZen for eBay. This is not an automatic inventory connection between the apps. If you offer the same physical card on both channels, remove the other listing when it sells.
Does CardZen replace a grading-submission tracker?
No. Grading-submission tracking is not a shipped CardZen feature. You can record the grader and grade of a card that is already graded.
